Scripture to Read: Genesis 22
This week our focus is on “worship.” As a body of believers here at Highview, as noted on our website, “Corporate worship is typically the first place to connect with our church family. In worship, we gather to hear who Jesus is, what He has done, and how to have an ongoing relationship with Him through bible preaching and song. As this revelation is given to us, we respond passionately through praises, giving of our resources, also observing baptisms and communion.” As believers, God has called us to worship Him together. The first time we find the word “worship” used in God’s Word is in Genesis 22:5, Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey, and I and the lad will go over there; and we will worship and return to you.” Abraham was taking Isaac to Moriah, for God had told Abraham to offer Isaac as a burnt offering in worship to our Lord. So, when Abraham told his servants, who had traveled with Abraham and Isaac, to stay where they were, Abraham knew that offering his son Isaac to the Lord was an act of worship and an incredible sacrifice. Worship is all about sacrifice and offering our best to our Lord. We must be willing to sacrifice our time, talents, resources, and everything else God has given us to worship our Lord. Our sacrifice seems so small when we consider that Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son as an act of worship to God. The point is, God alone is worthy of our worship, so let’s worship Him.
