Scripture to Read: Romans 10:2–4
As we continue our walk through Romans 10 this week, we settle in on Romans 10:2–4. It’s interesting how God had Paul write about the nation of Israel’s “enthusiasm” about Him. People can be incredibly enthusiastic about God but at the same time totally miss God. That was the nation of Israel, for they did not have correct knowledge about God and His purpose. According to Romans 10:4, the Jews misunderstood God’s righteousness, which of course is based on faith in Christ. So, the Jews, in all of their enthusiasm, sought to create their own righteousness based on their good works. That is true of every false religion that has ever been and exists today. Humanity can have passion, enthusiasm, and excitement about what they believe and be headed down the path of destruction. Everyone must surrender to God’s righteousness through Christ to be made righteous in the presence of God. We know God’s Law is perfect, but no one can perfectly obey His Law. That is the reason Christ came to earth in human form. Christ is the only One who has ever, and who will ever, fulfill God’s Law perfectly. So, when we surrender to Christ, God’s Law is perfectly fulfilled in each of us. As God led Paul to write in Romans 10:4, Christ is the fulfillment of His Law. God’s perfect Law leads us to Christ. For Christ then gives everyone His righteousness who chooses to believe completely in Him as Lord and Savior. So, let’s be even more enthusiastic than the Jews, for we are righteous in Christ.
Challenge & Application
Why should we not trust people just because they have passion, enthusiasm, and excitement about their beliefs?
Why should we be passionate, enthusiastic, and excited about what we believe about our Lord Jesus Christ?
