Scripture to Read: Romans 9:33–10:1
We start today with Romans 9:33 since we did not get to finish that out yesterday. God’s righteousness is only possible through a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. But God wanted the Jews to be reminded of His prophecy about many in Israel missing Christ, so God had Paul quote Isaiah 28:16 in Romans 9:33. Christ is the “Stone of stumbling and the Rock of offense.” The beauty in Isaiah 28:16 and Romans 9:33 is the last portion of the verses. God wants all to know that everyone who places their faith in (trusts in, relies on, clings to) “Christ will not be disappointed.” God’s Good News is found throughout His Word for all to see; people need to open their eyes and ears to see and hear so they do not miss Christ as their Lord. So, as we read Romans 10:1, it’s beautiful to see how God led Paul to proclaim his heart’s desire and prayer for all Israel to be saved. Let’s not miss the fact that it is God’s desire for all Israel and all Gentiles to be saved. A heart's desire for lost souls to be saved comes from God’s Holy Spirit living in each believer. And, to pray for the lost ought to be a daily part of our prayer life. We know we can agree with God, according to John 16:8–11, that He, through His Spirit, is convicting every lost soul concerning sin, righteousness, and judgment. So, we also pray Ephesians 6:19–20 as God uses us to share His Gospel.
Challenge & Application
Why do so many people miss Christ where He becomes a “Stone of stumbling and the Rock of offense” to them?
How have you been praying for the lost souls you know, and how has God used you to share Him with them?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
