Day 1

Scripture to Read: Romans 9:30–33

As we finished last week, we learned how God chose us as His children. The fact that God chose us is incredibly humbling, for we know we are born sinners, separated from Him. But once we surrender to Christ as Lord, God calls us His holy priesthood, His holy nation, and His people (1 Peter 2:9). So in Romans 9:30, God led Paul to ask, “What shall we say then?” God had Paul continue to help the Jews understand that salvation was available to the Gentiles and not just the Jews. For God had Paul answer the question by saying, “Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith.” Everyone, Jews and Gentiles alike, can attain God’s righteousness by placing our faith in Christ as Lord. The Jews had missed God’s grace, for the Jews thought they earned righteousness by trying to keep God’s Law through their own power and strength. Of course, no one can keep God’s Law perfectly (James 2:10), especially when we know we are born sinners. But God wanted to leave no doubt for any Jew, or anyone else, who thought they could earn their righteousness by keeping God’s Law. That is why God had Paul include Romans 9:31, helping the Jews fully understand that anyone who believed that by pursuing His law of righteousness they could be “good enough” for Him would fall short of fulfilling His law of righteousness. The Jews fell short because they did not place their faith in God but trusted in their works (Romans 9:32–33).

Challenge & Application

Why is it impossible for anyone to live righteous and holy apart from a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ? How is righteousness attained and once God’s righteousness is given, how should the one who received God’s righteousness live?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

We start today with Romans 9:33 since we did not get to finish that out yesterday. God’s righteousness is only possible through a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. But God wanted the Jews to be reminded of His prophecy about many in Israel missing Christ, so God had Paul quote Isaiah 28:16 in Romans 9:33. Christ is the “Stone of stumbl...

Day 3

As we continue our walk through Romans 10 this week, we settle in on Romans 10:2–4. It’s interesting how God had Paul write about the nation of Israel’s “enthusiasm” about Him. People can be incredibly enthusiastic about God but at the same time totally miss God. That was the nation of Israel, for they did not have correct knowledge about God...

Day 4

Today, we see how God used Paul to remind us that no one can keep every part of His perfect Law. In Romans 10:5, God makes it clear that even Moses wrote that anyone who seeks to make themselves right with God by trying to keep His Law and earn their righteousness through the Law would require obeying all of His commands. Again, we are born s...

Day 5

Yesterday’s devotion finished with the challenge that we each must daily live and share God's message of faith in Christ. So, God used Paul to give us His message in Romans 10:9–13, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person ...

Day 6

God had Paul ask great questions about His Word being preached to those who need to hear it. God had Paul ask, in Romans 10:14–15, How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 How will they preach unless they are sent? We sho...

Day 7

As we read Romans 10:16–21, we see that God gives a loving rebuke to the nation of Israel who had chosen not to listen to God’s good news of Christ. God had Paul ask questions in Romans 10:16, 18, and 19. First, God had Paul quote a question Isaiah had asked in Isaiah 53:1, “Lord, who has believed our message?” God gives the sweet answer in R...
