Day 7

Scripture to Read: Romans 5:20–21

What an incredible week of learning from God and His Holy Word. Today, we read in Romans 5:20–21, “The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” When we first read this passage from God’s Word, we may think that God is saying that His Law came into being so that people would sin that much more. However, God has called us to accurately handle His Word of Truth (2 Timothy 2:15), so as we further examine His Word, we see that God is saying His Law made people more aware of how sinful we are. God’s Word never encourages us to sin, nor does His Word lead us to sin more. But God’s Word brings sin into His light and out of the darkness, where our sinfulness likes to hide. God wants us to know how sinful we are so we will stay in constant fellowship with Him and His Word. God also wants us to understand that no matter how sinful we are, His grace goes far beyond all of our sinfulness and sets us free from the power and penalty of our sinfulness. So, even though our sin always results in death, through our Lord Jesus Christ, God’s grace gives us the fullness of His righteousness. Through Christ’s righteousness in us, we inherit eternal life and again are set free from eternal death, suffering, and hell.

Challenge & Application

How do you see God’s grace abounding in your life each day because of what Christ has done for you? How are you walking in the fullness of your freedom in Christ, and how are you sharing Him with others?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God’s Word is so rich, and God uses His Word in our lives to feed us, guide us, convict us, encourage us, and so much more. We ended last week with the understanding that since we’ve been justified by Christ’s blood, we will be saved from God’s wrath through Christ. We also learned that through Christ, we’ve been reconciled to God the Father ...

Day 2

As we continue, we read in Romans 5:13, “for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.” At first glance, we would think that God was saying through Paul that until the Law was given to Moses, God did not count people's sins against them because there was not yet any law to break. But God is not saying th...

Day 3

Our journey through Romans is incredibly enlightening, as God shows us His incredible grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. As we learned yesterday, even though God’s Law had not yet been given, people were still accountable for their sinful nature. Today, we continue as we read in Romans 5:14, “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses...

Day 4

Many verses in God’s Word stand out with God’s glorious majesty, grace, love, mercy, and more. We know it’s God’s Word and that all of it is powerful because it’s God’s Word. But we also know that some verses are packed with “good news,” which is what we have today. In the Amplified version of God’s Word, we read in Romans 5:15, “But the free...

Day 5

God continues to speak to us today about His incredible gift through Christ in Romans 5:16–17, “The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification....

Day 6

God’s Word ought to excite us and challenge us every day of our lives. If God’s Word is not changing us, the problem is not with God's Word, but the problem is with us. When we hunger and thirst more for what the news outlets are telling us, what we receive from our social media accounts, or what we get from “good” books or podcasts, we are m...
