Scripture to Read: Romans 5:14
Our journey through Romans is incredibly enlightening, as God shows us His incredible grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. As we learned yesterday, even though God’s Law had not yet been given, people were still accountable for their sinful nature. Today, we continue as we read in Romans 5:14, “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.” Because every person inherited a sinful nature from Adam, death ruled over every person from Adam to Moses. Now, we know death has not only ruled from Adam to Moses but has ruled to this day because everyone from Adam until now has died. But Christ defeated death for us so that though everyone dies physically, not all will die spiritually. We saw this on Day 1 of this week, but it’s worth mentioning again that God recorded this Truth in 1 Corinthians 15:22, “For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.” (AMP) Those who refuse the gift of life through Christ will die twice. Each person without Christ dies both physically and spiritually. People's spiritual death is the worst because it is for eternity. The only One who defeated death entirely is our Lord Jesus Christ. As believers, it is hard to imagine not having eternal life through Christ. The people still alive need to hear what Christ has to offer them, so let's not be silent any longer.
Challenge & Application
Why has death reigned in every person's life since Adam?
How is the reign of death broken in a person’s life, and why is there only one way to break this reign of death?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
