Day 1

Scripture to Read: Romans 5:12

God’s Word is so rich, and God uses His Word in our lives to feed us, guide us, convict us, encourage us, and so much more. We ended last week with the understanding that since we’ve been justified by Christ’s blood, we will be saved from God’s wrath through Christ. We also learned that through Christ, we’ve been reconciled to God the Father and saved from the penalty and power of sin. So, because of all Christ has done for us, we read today in Romans 5:12, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.” God reminds us that sin entered the world through Adam. God does not say that sin entered the world through Eve but through Adam. God confirms that sin came into the world through Adam in 1 Corinthians 15:21–22, “For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.” When God says that by Adam “came death,” we know that sin always results in death, but that life comes through Christ alone (Colossians 3:4, John 10:10). God also reminds us in Romans 5:12 that all have sinned. There is not a person who has lived, is living, or will ever live that is not sinful. Christ died for our sins and paid the total price so we could be free from sin's power and penalty.

Challenge & Application

What did we inherit from Adam, and why did death come to everyone? How are we set free from sin’s power and penalty, and who will you share this good news with this week?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

As we continue, we read in Romans 5:13, “for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.” At first glance, we would think that God was saying through Paul that until the Law was given to Moses, God did not count people's sins against them because there was not yet any law to break. But God is not saying th...

Day 3

Our journey through Romans is incredibly enlightening, as God shows us His incredible grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. As we learned yesterday, even though God’s Law had not yet been given, people were still accountable for their sinful nature. Today, we continue as we read in Romans 5:14, “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses...

Day 4

Many verses in God’s Word stand out with God’s glorious majesty, grace, love, mercy, and more. We know it’s God’s Word and that all of it is powerful because it’s God’s Word. But we also know that some verses are packed with “good news,” which is what we have today. In the Amplified version of God’s Word, we read in Romans 5:15, “But the free...

Day 5

God continues to speak to us today about His incredible gift through Christ in Romans 5:16–17, “The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification....

Day 6

God’s Word ought to excite us and challenge us every day of our lives. If God’s Word is not changing us, the problem is not with God's Word, but the problem is with us. When we hunger and thirst more for what the news outlets are telling us, what we receive from our social media accounts, or what we get from “good” books or podcasts, we are m...

Day 7

What an incredible week of learning from God and His Holy Word. Today, we read in Romans 5:20–21, “The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” ...
