Scripture to Read: Romans 3:13
Today our focus is on Romans 3:13, as God continues to paint the bleak picture of the human race. We must remember that Paul penned Romans about 2,000 years ago, and the verses in Psalms were penned around 500 to 1,000 years before Romans was written. Now, why is it important to remember when these books of the Bible were written? Because we can see how these verses in Romans 3, Psalms 5, and Psalms 140 describe the state of the human race today. God reminds us that the sinful human race has not changed over the last few thousand years. The reason mankind has not changed is that as long as the human race continues to deny Christ as their Lord, their sin-filled flesh will rule their actions and motives (Galatians 5:19–21, 2 Timothy 2:26, 2 Corinthians 4:3–4). In Romans 3:13, God had Paul write, “Their throat is an open grave, with their tongues they keep deceiving,” “The poison of asps is under their lips.” God had Paul quote from Psalms 5:9 and Psalms 140:3. What an indictment against the entire human race. When we consider what is posted online today and what is spewed across our news media outlets, God describes them perfectly in that nothing they say is reliable. God also described their throat as an open grave and that poison comes from their lips. God says that their words are like death to the person who listens to them. We must feed on God’s Truth, which alone gives us life each day.
