Day 5

Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:9

As we continue to unpack Revelation 3:7-13, we need to know that the Believers in Philadelphia had encountered hardships for living out their faith. Jesus spoke of the people in Philadelphia who persecuted the Christians during that period. Jesus said, “Behold, I will cause those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie—I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and make them know that I have loved you.” Jesus said very similar words in John 15:18-19, “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.” The good news, though, is that Jesus promised that He would declare His people innocent. Jesus also said that He would make sure that those who persecuted His children would recognize that they were wrong and that Jesus alone is Lord. We see this in Isaiah 45:23,“ I have sworn by Myself, the word has gone forth from My mouth in righteousness and will not turn back, that to Me every knee will bow, every tongue will swear allegiance.” Our Lord also declared it in Romans 14:11, For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall give praise to God.” It is awesome to know that we belong to Him.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about how the world will treat you and about who you are in Christ? 2. How are you letting the peace of Christ rule in your heart (Colossians 3:15) as you live in this hate-filled world?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has been teaching us a lot through His letters to the seven churches in Revelation, chapters 2 & 3. This week, we unpack what our Lord Jesus Christ wrote to the church in Philadelphia through John. As we start this week, we need to remember that our Lord Jesus spoke to all seven churches, instructing the churches (and all Christians) to r...

Day 2

In Revelation 3:7-13, Jesus addressed the church of Philadelphia. As we noted in yesterday’s devotion, the church in Philadelphia is one of the two faithful churches spoken well of by our Lord Jesus Christ. In Revelation 3:7, Jesus described His authority and that this letter is from Him; “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:...

Day 3

As we read Revelation 3:8, Jesus reminds the church in Philadelphia that He sees and knows all of their works. Of course, this Word from our Lord is for us as well for He sees and knows everything we do each day. In Revelation 3:8, our Lord says, “I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you...

Day 4

As we continue to examine Revelation 3:8, we see that Jesus says He has put an open door before the church. Many times in Scripture this “open door” refers to opportunities to share the gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 16:8-9; 2 Corinthians 2:12). In Colossians 4:3 God led Paul to ask the church at Colossae to pray this for him: that God will ...

Day 6

As we finish up with Revelation 3:9 today, we also find that Jesus said He will make others know that He has loved us. One day Jesus will reveal to the entire world that we belong to Him. God led John to write this in 1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, ...

Day 7

As we close out this week, we find Jesus proclaiming in Revelation 3:11, “I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” When Jesus says He is coming “quickly,” it does not mean He’s coming in the immediate future, but it means that His coming will be sudden and unexpected. Again, this is another reference...
