Day 2

Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:7

In Revelation 3:7-13, Jesus addressed the church of Philadelphia. As we noted in yesterday’s devotion, the church in Philadelphia is one of the two faithful churches spoken well of by our Lord Jesus Christ. In Revelation 3:7, Jesus described His authority and that this letter is from Him; “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: He who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says this:” Jesus gives an awesome reminder to the church that He alone is holy, He alone is true, and He alone has the key of David, which means He is the Keeper of the keys and doors. Another way of saying it is that He alone holds all power and authority (Daniel 7:14, Matthew 11:27, Matthew 28:18, Romans 14:9, Ephesians 1:20-23, Philippians 2:9-11, Colossians 1:16, Colossians 2:10, 1 Peter 3:22). To know our Lord Jesus Christ is in complete control gives us, as Believers, great peace because we live in a world that is racing faster and faster toward the gates of hell. Also knowing that our Lord Jesus Christ is the One who opens and closes doors means we can rest in Him and that He will guide us to exactly where He desires us to be so that we carry out His perfect purpose and plans (Philippians 2:12). We should never doubt that He puts us exactly where He knows we fit best into His will.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about who our Lord Jesus Christ is and what He does for us because we belong to Him? 2. How are you resting in our Lord, that He will open and close the doors for you as you pursue Him and His Word daily?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has been teaching us a lot through His letters to the seven churches in Revelation, chapters 2 & 3. This week, we unpack what our Lord Jesus Christ wrote to the church in Philadelphia through John. As we start this week, we need to remember that our Lord Jesus spoke to all seven churches, instructing the churches (and all Christians) to r...

Day 3

As we read Revelation 3:8, Jesus reminds the church in Philadelphia that He sees and knows all of their works. Of course, this Word from our Lord is for us as well for He sees and knows everything we do each day. In Revelation 3:8, our Lord says, “I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you...

Day 4

As we continue to examine Revelation 3:8, we see that Jesus says He has put an open door before the church. Many times in Scripture this “open door” refers to opportunities to share the gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 16:8-9; 2 Corinthians 2:12). In Colossians 4:3 God led Paul to ask the church at Colossae to pray this for him: that God will ...

Day 5

As we continue to unpack Revelation 3:7-13, we need to know that the Believers in Philadelphia had encountered hardships for living out their faith. Jesus spoke of the people in Philadelphia who persecuted the Christians during that period. Jesus said, “Behold, I will cause those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews and are n...

Day 6

As we finish up with Revelation 3:9 today, we also find that Jesus said He will make others know that He has loved us. One day Jesus will reveal to the entire world that we belong to Him. God led John to write this in 1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, ...

Day 7

As we close out this week, we find Jesus proclaiming in Revelation 3:11, “I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” When Jesus says He is coming “quickly,” it does not mean He’s coming in the immediate future, but it means that His coming will be sudden and unexpected. Again, this is another reference...
