Day 4

Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:8

As we continue to examine Revelation 3:8, we see that Jesus says He has put an open door before the church. Many times in Scripture this “open door” refers to opportunities to share the gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 16:8-9; 2 Corinthians 2:12). In Colossians 4:3 God led Paul to ask the church at Colossae to pray this for him: that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ. We must also pray this daily for ourselves and for all other believers and be watchful so we do not miss the opportunities God gives us each day. Jesus then says to the church in Philadelphia, “you have a little power.” This does not imply weakness but shows that the Believers were humble enough to know their strength was only found in our Lord. Jesus wants us to know that true strength is only found in Him and that we have nothing to boast in except Him (2 Corinthians 12:9-10; Galatians 6:14; Philippians 3:7-8). Then Jesus encourages the church by telling them “you have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” True blessing comes through obedience to our Lord and His Word (Psalms 119:9; John 13:17; James 1:25). If anyone denies our Lord here, He will deny them before His Father (2 Timothy 2:12: Matthew 10:33: Luke 12:9). We must walk in obedience and lead others to Him so they do not deny Him.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about “open doors,” having “little power,” and not “denying Him.”? 2. How are you being watchful for “open doors” each day and being “strong in the Lord” (Ephesians 6:10; 2 Timothy 2:1)?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has been teaching us a lot through His letters to the seven churches in Revelation, chapters 2 & 3. This week, we unpack what our Lord Jesus Christ wrote to the church in Philadelphia through John. As we start this week, we need to remember that our Lord Jesus spoke to all seven churches, instructing the churches (and all Christians) to r...

Day 2

In Revelation 3:7-13, Jesus addressed the church of Philadelphia. As we noted in yesterday’s devotion, the church in Philadelphia is one of the two faithful churches spoken well of by our Lord Jesus Christ. In Revelation 3:7, Jesus described His authority and that this letter is from Him; “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:...

Day 3

As we read Revelation 3:8, Jesus reminds the church in Philadelphia that He sees and knows all of their works. Of course, this Word from our Lord is for us as well for He sees and knows everything we do each day. In Revelation 3:8, our Lord says, “I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you...

Day 5

As we continue to unpack Revelation 3:7-13, we need to know that the Believers in Philadelphia had encountered hardships for living out their faith. Jesus spoke of the people in Philadelphia who persecuted the Christians during that period. Jesus said, “Behold, I will cause those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews and are n...

Day 6

As we finish up with Revelation 3:9 today, we also find that Jesus said He will make others know that He has loved us. One day Jesus will reveal to the entire world that we belong to Him. God led John to write this in 1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, ...

Day 7

As we close out this week, we find Jesus proclaiming in Revelation 3:11, “I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” When Jesus says He is coming “quickly,” it does not mean He’s coming in the immediate future, but it means that His coming will be sudden and unexpected. Again, this is another reference...
