Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:8
As we read Revelation 3:8, Jesus reminds the church in Philadelphia that He sees and knows all of their works. Of course, this Word from our Lord is for us as well for He sees and knows everything we do each day. In Revelation 3:8, our Lord says, “I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name.” The fact that Jesus knows everything is a serious warning to all those who are just going through the religious motions. But, for every Believer who is pursuing Christ and His Word and striving to walk with our Lord in complete obedience, Him knowing everything is an incredible, loving, encouraging Word. Our Lord Jesus Christ makes the distinction between true Believers (as seen in the church of Philadelphia) and those who claim salvation but their actions prove otherwise (James 1:22-25; James 2:14-26). The old saying, “actions speak louder than words” is so true. Even in the passages in James 1 and James 2, our God tells us we must be “doers” of His Word, and we must prove our faith through our works, not that works save us because they do not. But our works show how the power of His Holy Spirit is transforming our lives. Since our “deeds,” our “works,” are evident to our Lord, we must prove ourselves worthy by fulfilling the works He has called us to do (Ephesians 2:10).
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about the works He has called you to fulfill?
2. How are you daily walking in the works God has for you to do and how is God using those works to impact others around you?
