Day 6

Scripture to Read: Matthew 6:22–23

Since our eye is the lamp of our body, as Jesus said in Matthew 6:22, we must guard what we choose to look at, read, study, watch, and focus on. God reminds us in Ephesians 5:8–9, “for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth).” Notice that before we surrendered to Christ, we were darkness, but because Christ lives in us through His Holy Spirit, we are now Light through our Lord. Through our Lord Jesus Christ and His Light in us, we reap the benefit of His goodness, righteousness, and truth and as we walk in His fruit, His Light shines through us. So, if we’re choosing to watch, read, or focus on the things of this world—things that we know are darkness—then we dim the Light of Christ in us. God even tells us in Ephesians 5:11–12, “Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; 12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.” God does not want us to participate in anything that will diminish His Light in us, but He wants us instead to expose the garbage of this world for what it is. When we expose the darkness, it protects us and it protects other Christians from being deceived by it. Let’s be sure we’re full of Christ and nothing of the darkness.

Challenge & Application

· Why must we guard what we watch, read, and focus on? · How is Christ’s Light currently shining in and through you, and what darkness needs to be removed?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has taught us much so far as we have been walking through “The Sermon on the Mount.” Over these next few days, our Lord Jesus Christ will be challenging us about what we should treasure and what we should not treasure. When we treasure something, we love it dearly, we hold tightly to it, we have a special place in our heart for it, and mo...

Day 2

As our Lord God Almighty speaks to us each day through His Word, He wants us not only to read His Word but to know how to apply it to our lives every day. Day 3

One of the things our Lord God Almighty always does is that He never tells us what not to do without giving us what we should do. Our Lord Jesus Christ tells us in Matthew 6:20, “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.” Storing up treasures in heaven at...

Day 4

Jesus tells us where to store our treasure in Matthew 6:20, but then He tells us why this is so important. Jesus said in Matthew 6:21, “for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” What we treasure reveals to us and everyone else what our greatest wishes are, where our deepest desires hunger, and that on which our life is focus...

Day 5

Jesus has told us that we must store up our treasures in heaven, and then He says (in Matthew 6:22) “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.” What our Lord is telling us is that when we are focused on God and His Word, our whole body will reap the benefits of God’s Word. God said i...

Day 7

Jesus gives us this warning in Matthew 6:23, “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” What Christ is saying is that when we choose to be spiritually blind, our body reaps the consequence of being empty of God’s Word. Our spiritual bucket must b...
