Scripture to Read: Matthew 6:19–23
God has taught us much so far as we have been walking through “The Sermon on the Mount.” Over these next few days, our Lord Jesus Christ will be challenging us about what we should treasure and what we should not treasure. When we treasure something, we love it dearly, we hold tightly to it, we have a special place in our heart for it, and most of the time, whatever it is we treasure will consume much of our time and energy. To treasure certain things is good and to treasure other things is costly. We have the choice of what we treasure, but our Lord Jesus Christ knows what’s best for us, so, He tells us what’s best. When we’re willing to obey our Lord and His Word, we reap the blessings of walking in obedience to Him as we treasure what He says is most important to treasure. But when we choose to allow our fleshly desires to drive us and we treasure what our flesh wants, then we reap the consequences of disobeying our Lord and His Word. We’ll unpack many of these verses over the next few days, but as we examine God’s Word, there are just two to look at today that tie into Matthew 6. In Proverbs 7:1, God tells us to treasure His commandments within us. Then, God tells us in Colossians 2:3 that all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ. God’s Word, wisdom, and knowledge are all precious gifts from God. If we just start treasuring them, we can’t go wrong.

· What are some things you have treasured in the past that proved to be a waste of time?
· What are some things you currently treasure that might prove to be less beneficial than good?
