Scripture to Read: Joshua 6
In Joshua 6, we find Joshua led by the Lord to take the city of Jericho. Make sure and read all of Joshua 6 to get the full picture of all God did for the Israelites. But our focus today is on Rahab and her families’ deliverance. Because Rahab was faithful to the two Israelite spies and kept them safe, Joshua made sure the promise the two spies made to Rahab was also honored. God handed over Jericho to the Israelites, but Joshua made sure Rahab and her family safely got out of Jericho. We read in Joshua 6:22-23 how the rescue mission went, “Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, ‘Go into the harlot’s house and bring the woman and all she has out of there, as you have sworn to her.’ 23 So the young men who were spies went in and brought out Rahab and her father and her mother and her brothers and all she had; they also brought out all her relatives and placed them outside the camp of Israel.” God is always faithful to His promises, which is great news for all of us who walk with Him. Because Joshua walked with God, he knew he must honor the promise made to Rahab and her family, so Joshua made sure they were delivered from harm. God is a God of deliverance, and we must make sure we trust in Him. Even when the battle wages all around us, we can know that one day we’ll be safely home with Him.
