Scripture to Read: Ruth 1
God gave us the book of Ruth to display for us His beautiful plan of redemption. God’s perfect plan was fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ. To be redeemed means to be purchased out of poverty and slavery and restored to dignity and honor. Ruth was purchased (redeemed) by Boaz. Ruth was delivered from physical poverty by Boaz redeeming her and taking her as his wife. Ruth had also been delivered from spiritual poverty when she chose to worship the one true God when she told Naomi in Ruth 1:16, “Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.” Redemption has always been God’s plan for mankind. It is up to each person to decide whether they believe the Truth of God’s Word or whether they believe the lies of this world. We know Ruth chose to follow God by declaring that to Naomi. But Orpah, Naomi’s other daughter-in-law, chose to go back to Moab, as stated by Naomi in Ruth 1:15 “Then she said, ‘Behold, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and her gods; return after your sister-in-law.’” Orpah could have been redeemed if she had chosen to go with Naomi and proclaim, as Ruth did, that Naomi’s God would be her God. But Orpah chose instead to settle for the false god of the Moabites. Each individual in this world chooses which God they will serve, the false gods of this world or the One True God. Let’s share Him so they can make the right choice.
