Day 4

Scripture to Read: Ruth 4

According to God’s perfect plan, Boaz knew that another relative could redeem Ruth. Boaz made it known to Ruth that if the closer relative was unwilling to redeem her, that Boaz would redeem Ruth (Ruth 3:12-13 12 Now it is true I am a close relative; however, there is a relative closer than I. 13 Remain this night, and when morning comes, if he will redeem you, good; let him redeem you. But if he does not wish to redeem you, then I will redeem you, as the Lord lives. Lie down until morning.”) So, as we read Ruth 4 today, we see the conversation between Boaz and the other relative being offered to purchase Elimelech’s land and redeem Ruth. When the relative heard only of the land, he was ready to buy it, but when he heard he must also redeem Ruth, he was willing to walk away and allow Boaz to redeem Ruth. The other relative was fearful of his current inheritance being divided more because Ruth and the future children they would have would also become heirs to this relative’s inheritance. Though Boaz and Ruth did not know what the other relative might decide, they knew that the other relative must be offered the land, and Ruth, by what was written in God's Law. God knew what His plan was and that His plan would be fulfilled. When things seem like they will not go the way we would like, if it is in God’s plan, we can rest assured that God will fulfill His plan.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about Him fulfilling His perfect plan? 2. How are you seeking God and His Word each day so that you are walking according to His will and His way?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week we have the privilege of allowing God to speak to us through the life of Ruth. Ruth had grown up in Moab, so she was known as Moabite. In Genesis 19:30-38, we find that Moab was a son of Lot. Lot was a nephew of Abraham. The Moabites worshiped a false god known as Chemosh, whereas the Israelites worshipped Yahweh, the One True God. ...

Day 2

God is always our Protector and Provider. This does not mean that our lives will be easy, nor does it mean that we will always have an abundance. It does mean that, even in hard times, we can trust Him completely and know that He will see us through the tests and trials of this life. Ruth was experiencing a tough time, for she moved to Bethle...

Day 3

In Ruth 3, we find God’s continued provision for Ruth. Naomi knows that Boaz is family and according to Old Testament Law, if a young woman was widowed, then a close family member was to redeem her to keep the family name going (Deuteronomy 25:5-10). So, Naomi instructs Ruth on what to do. For Ruth to lay at Boaz’s feet (Ruth 3:8-13) was a si...

Day 5

As we have examined Ruth so far this week, it brings us to examine our lives to make sure we are walking in God’s wisdom as Ruth and Boaz did. We know God is constantly at work in our lives, but we can fall prey to doing things our way if we become selfishly motivated. God tells us in James 3:14-15 that if we have bitter jealousy and selfish ...

Day 6

God gave us the book of Ruth to display for us His beautiful plan of redemption. God’s perfect plan was fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ. To be redeemed means to be purchased out of poverty and slavery and restored to dignity and honor. Ruth was purchased (redeemed) by Boaz. Ruth was delivered from physical poverty by Boaz redeeming he...

Day 7

God’s redemption story is so incredibly powerful and one we need to share daily. Since Ruth is the story of redemption, today we examine 1 Peter 1:18-25 as an incredible reminder of our redemption story. As God led Peter to pen these words, we are reminded in 1 Peter 1:18 that our redemption was not purchased with anything this world has to o...
