Day 2

Scripture to Read: Ruth 2

God is always our Protector and Provider. This does not mean that our lives will be easy, nor does it mean that we will always have an abundance. It does mean that, even in hard times, we can trust Him completely and know that He will see us through the tests and trials of this life. Ruth was experiencing a tough time, for she moved to Bethlehem, away from her family in Moab. Ruth was also living in poverty because her husband had died. Ruth had asked Naomi, her mother-in-law, in Ruth 2:2, “Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after one in whose sight I may find favor.” Naomi told her yes and God guided Ruth to the field of Boaz. Boaz was a kinsman of Naomi’s husband, Elimelech. Ruth was shown great favor by Boaz (Ruth 2:10-13) because Ruth had shown great favor to her mother-in-law, Naomi. God, in His sovereignty, was taking care of Ruth through Boaz. God works that way in our lives today as well. As believers, we must not see the miracles of God as merely a coincidence in our lives. God is continually working in all areas of our lives, just as He did in Ruth and Boaz’s lives. We need to recognize God’s handiwork in us, through us, and in and through the people we encounter each day. God is mightily at work and as we obey Him, we can know we’re right where He desires us to be.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about His sovereign work in and through you daily? 2. How are you recognizing God’s handiwork in and around you, and how are you thanking Him for His favor on your life daily?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week we have the privilege of allowing God to speak to us through the life of Ruth. Ruth had grown up in Moab, so she was known as Moabite. In Genesis 19:30-38, we find that Moab was a son of Lot. Lot was a nephew of Abraham. The Moabites worshiped a false god known as Chemosh, whereas the Israelites worshipped Yahweh, the One True God. ...

Day 3

In Ruth 3, we find God’s continued provision for Ruth. Naomi knows that Boaz is family and according to Old Testament Law, if a young woman was widowed, then a close family member was to redeem her to keep the family name going (Deuteronomy 25:5-10). So, Naomi instructs Ruth on what to do. For Ruth to lay at Boaz’s feet (Ruth 3:8-13) was a si...

Day 4

According to God’s perfect plan, Boaz knew that another relative could redeem Ruth. Boaz made it known to Ruth that if the closer relative was unwilling to redeem her, that Boaz would redeem Ruth (Ruth 3:12-13 12 Now it is true I am a close relative; however, there is a relative closer than I. 13 Remain this night, and when morning comes, if ...

Day 5

As we have examined Ruth so far this week, it brings us to examine our lives to make sure we are walking in God’s wisdom as Ruth and Boaz did. We know God is constantly at work in our lives, but we can fall prey to doing things our way if we become selfishly motivated. God tells us in James 3:14-15 that if we have bitter jealousy and selfish ...

Day 6

God gave us the book of Ruth to display for us His beautiful plan of redemption. God’s perfect plan was fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ. To be redeemed means to be purchased out of poverty and slavery and restored to dignity and honor. Ruth was purchased (redeemed) by Boaz. Ruth was delivered from physical poverty by Boaz redeeming he...

Day 7

God’s redemption story is so incredibly powerful and one we need to share daily. Since Ruth is the story of redemption, today we examine 1 Peter 1:18-25 as an incredible reminder of our redemption story. As God led Peter to pen these words, we are reminded in 1 Peter 1:18 that our redemption was not purchased with anything this world has to o...
