Day 7

Scripture to Read: James 2:14-26

As we finish out this week on our obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ, another Scripture that fits right in is James 2:14-26. Sometimes people think, as they read James 2, that as God led James to write these verses that it almost sounds like our works save us. But God NEVER contradicts Himself, so we know that is not what God had James write. God wants us to know that our faith is counterfeit if there is not any evidence of our faith. We may talk a good talk, but if our life does not match our words, then God says our faith is dead (James 2:17). God led James to use Abraham as an example of living out his faith in God, and God also had James use Rahab as an example of someone who put her faith in God into action. Abraham and Rahab could not be two more opposites. Abraham is who God chose to bless (Genesis 12:1-3; Genesis 15:2-6) and to bring forth the Messiah, our Lord Jesus, through Abraham’s line of descendants. Rahab was a prostitute and would have been considered an outcast because she was a prostitute. But both Abraham and Rahab placed their faith in God and followed their faith by acting upon it in obedience to God. Our faith must be put into action every day. We must live in a manner that honors Him through what we say, do, and even think. Let’s be sure and live our faith out loud.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about your faith? 2. How are you living your faith out loud?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We start a new series over these next several weeks on “Jesus’ Parables: to be awakened to a kingdom mentality.” This week our focus is on Luke 6:46-49. There will be some other Scriptures added to the devotions this week, but rest assured they will tie into what God has led our pastors to be sharing with us from His Holy Word. Jesus asks an ...

Day 2

As we read Luke 6:47-48 today, our Lord lays out for us what we are like if we walk in obedience to Him and His Word. Note first that we must first choose to come to Him. We know that Jesus left heaven to come to us so we could know Him as our personal Lord and Savior. Just because He came to us (the entire human race), though, does not mean ...

Day 3

Today, in Luke 6:49, we see a sharp contrast to yesterday’s devotion. As we saw yesterday, if our foundation is built on our daily fellowship with Christ and His Word and we walk in obedience to Him, we can withstand the storms of this life. Today, though, our Lord Jesus Christ uses another comparison that has tragic results. Jesus says that ...

Day 4

This week’s theme is all about walking in obedience to our Lord and His Word. Too often, even within churches in this country, people have a false sense of security, thinking they are going to heaven. They base their security on praying a prayer, walking the aisle in their church, and then getting baptized. None of these things are wrong or b...

Day 5

God loves to repeat Himself throughout His Word. He does this because He knows we need constant reminders to what His Truth says. If we were willingly obedient in all areas of our lives, I really believe the Bible would consist of only two commands. These two commands are the ones that Jesus said were the two greatest commands of all. Jesus s...

Day 6

In light of all God has been teaching us this week about obedience, there is no doubt that James 1:22-25 ties directly to us walking in obedience to our Lord. Again, God continually brings us back to the reality that obedience to Him and His Word are the markers of a life surrendered to Christ. God tells us today that we need to prove ourselv...
