Scripture to Read: Luke 6:47-48
As we read Luke 6:47-48 today, our Lord lays out for us what we are like if we walk in obedience to Him and His Word. Note first that we must first choose to come to Him. We know that Jesus left heaven to come to us so we could know Him as our personal Lord and Savior. Just because He came to us (the entire human race), though, does not mean that everyone will choose to come to Him. Because we did choose to come to Christ and surrender to Him as Lord, we must be careful not to become complacent in our daily walk with Him. We still must choose to daily read and memorize His Word so we hear Him clearly and learn to practice His presence in our lives all day long. Jesus says that when we listen to Him and His Word and walk in obedience to Him and His Word, we are like someone who built a house on a rock-solid foundation. The foundation we have built our life on is critical to everything else we face and do in our lives. We all face tests, trials, and tribulations in this life. Jesus compares the troubles in this life to a “flood” and “torrent burst” (floodwaters bursting against whatever is in its path). We know what those floodwaters feel like because we have all faced those heavy trials in our lives. If our foundation is founded in Christ and His Word, we can withstand and overcome whatever we face.
