Scripture to Read: Matthew 22:35-40
God loves to repeat Himself throughout His Word. He does this because He knows we need constant reminders to what His Truth says. If we were willingly obedient in all areas of our lives, I really believe the Bible would consist of only two commands. These two commands are the ones that Jesus said were the two greatest commands of all. Jesus shares these two commands in Matthew 22:36-40, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. ’38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. ’40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” Jesus said that every commandment is wrapped up in loving God with all we are and loving our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus said in verse 40 that all God gave us through Moses in the Law, and all that God said through the Prophets are all founded on these two commandments. So, as we have been examining our lives this week, our focus has been on obeying our Lord. The greatest way we can show our obedience to our God and King is to love Him passionately with every ounce of our being and to love others as we love ourselves. Love is an action, not a feeling. So, loving our Lord means we will do everything He commands us to do.
