Scripture to Read: Luke 6:49
Today, in Luke 6:49, we see a sharp contrast to yesterday’s devotion. As we saw yesterday, if our foundation is built on our daily fellowship with Christ and His Word and we walk in obedience to Him, we can withstand the storms of this life. Today, though, our Lord Jesus Christ uses another comparison that has tragic results. Jesus says that everyone who hears His Truth but does nothing with His Truth after hearing it is like someone building a house without a foundation. There are people all around us today who have no foundation on which to stand. These are the people who are lost without Christ. Our churches across this country are full of people who hear the Word of God each week but do nothing with what they have heard because they are still dead on the inside. God describes these lost people this way in Ephesians 2:1-3. They are dead in their trespasses and sins. They choose to walk according to the path of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, and of the spirit that is working in them, because they are children of disobedience. They live according to the lusts of their flesh, and they indulge the desires of their flesh and mind. They are, by their very nature, children that will reap God’s judgment unless they repent of their sin and surrender to Christ as Lord. These people need Christ, and we must share God’s love, truth, and forgiveness with them.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about those who have no foundation on which to stand?
2. Who do you know that is like this and when will you share Christ with them?
