Scripture to Read: Luke 6:46
We start a new series over these next several weeks on “Jesus’ Parables: to be awakened to a kingdom mentality.” This week our focus is on Luke 6:46-49. There will be some other Scriptures added to the devotions this week, but rest assured they will tie into what God has led our pastors to be sharing with us from His Holy Word. Jesus asks an incredibly important question in Luke 6:46, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” As believers, we know we are to obey our Lord and His Word daily, but we often fail miserably. Most of our failures stem from us choosing not to spend time daily in intimate fellowship with our Lord and His Word. We cannot walk in consistent obedience if we are out of fellowship with our Lord and feeding on His Word. Jesus made it clear in John 15:14,“ You are My friends if you do what I command you.” Following our Lord’s Word is the evidence that we belong to Him. God even led the Apostle John to write, in 1 John 2:3,“ By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.” Note the big “if” on both of these Scripture verses. If we declare with our mouths that Jesus is Lord of our lives then our words, our daily decisions, and our very thoughts should all be in line with God’s Holy Word. If we call Him Lord, let’s do what He says.
Challenge & Application
1. What did God teach you today about your obedience to Him and His Word?
2. What steps do you take daily to make sure you are walking in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ and His Word?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
