Scripture to Read: Luke 10:28
Today we examine Luke 10:28, as Jesus qualifies for us, and for the lawyer who came to Him, what it takes to inherit eternal life. As we know from Luke 10:27, the lawyer had given his answer back to Jesus that loving God and loving people was what God’s Law said. Jesus then tells the lawyer, “You have answered correctly; do this and you will live.” So, Jesus said that eternal life is for everyone who loves God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength and loves their neighbor as themselves. This means that the evidence of a life transformed by Christ is shown in how people are loving God and loving each other. Jesus said it this way in Matthew 22:37-40 that the two greatest commandments are to love God and love people. Jesus then said that the entire Law and everything that the prophets said was based on these two commandments. To say we love God and love people means nothing if our actions do not prove the love. Our actions solidify what fills our hearts, and if we do not love God with all our being and love others as ourselves then we are still dead on the inside. Jesus said this in John 13:34-35, that He was giving us a new commandment, that we were to love as He loves us. Well, Jesus proved His love for us by sacrificing His life for us. Real love takes sacrificing ourselves to serve our Lord and to serve others. As Jesus said, “do this and you will live.”

2. How are you currently loving God with your entire being and loving your neighbor as yourself?
