Day 4

Scripture to Read: John 9:13–17

When God works miraculously, there will always be people who doubt what God has done. After Jesus had healed the blind man, the people who had been questioning him decided to bring him before the Pharisees. Since it was a Sabbath, the Pharisees immediately proclaimed that Jesus could not be from God because He didn’t keep the Sabbath. But the Pharisees placed heavy burdens on the Jews and totally misinterpreted Scripture to benefit themselves. Jesus made it clear in Mark 2:27–28, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” This ties directly to God’s Word in Exodus 23:12 and Deuteronomy 5:14, where God clearly states that the Sabbath was a day to cease from labor so people could be refreshed and renewed in Him from their normal workload. The Sabbath was never intended to be a day where people did nothing at all. God even had Paul reiterate this fact in Colossians 2:16–17, Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— 17 things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. Our Lord Jesus Christ is our Sabbath, for He is our Peace and Rest (Matthew 11:28, Jeremiah 31:25). The religious always miss Christ and settle for their religion. Even the man who had been healed of blindness physically also saw clearly spiritually.

Challenge & Application

• Why do people today still rely more on their religion than they do on a vibrant relationship with God through Christ? • How do you guard against religious rules and truly enjoy your walk with Christ our Lord?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus had just slipped away from the crowd who wanted to stone Him, and He departed from the temple. As John 9 opens, we read in John 9:1, As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. Nothing in Jesus’ life ever happened by accident. Jesus walked in God the Father’s perfect will every day of His life here on earth. God also desires us to w...

Day 2

Jesus did not look at the blind man’s sinfulness, but He knew this was an opportunity given to Him by God the Father to do the works of the Father (John 5:19, John 5:30, John 6:38, John 8:28, John 12:49, John 14:10). Jesus said in John 9:4–5, “We must work the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming when no one can work...

Day 3

Jesus healed people in different ways while He was here on earth. Sometimes, Jesus would speak a word and the person would be healed (Matthew 8:8–13). At other times, Jesus would touch them and they would be healed (Matthew 8:14–15, Luke 4:40). There were those who were healed simply by touching Jesus’ clothing (Mark 5:25–29). There were also...

Day 5

Doubters are all around us. Some doubters are like Thomas (John 20:24–28) in that they believe wholeheartedly once they see with their own eyes. Others doubt because they don’t want to believe, but they would rather be argumentative and simply cause turmoil. In John 9:18, we read how the Jews would not believe the man who had been healed of b...

Day 6

There are times when God uses the “unlearned” and the “unwise” to teach the “worldly wise.” God loves to teach the arrogant through His beloved children. God tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:27–31, but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are str...

Day 7

Jesus is always our encourager and comforter. Jesus had heard that the healed man had been cast out of the synagogue, and so Jesus found him. We read in John 9:35–38 Jesus heard that they had put him out, and finding him, He said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” 36 He answered, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?” 37 Jesus said t...
