Scripture to Read: John 9:1–3
Jesus had just slipped away from the crowd who wanted to stone Him, and He departed from the temple. As John 9 opens, we read in John 9:1, As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. Nothing in Jesus’ life ever happened by accident. Jesus walked in God the Father’s perfect will every day of His life here on earth. God also desires us to walk according to His perfect will each day. He does not expect us to do this on our own—that is why God tells us in Philippians 2:13, for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. God is actively working in our lives through His Holy Spirit who dwells in us (1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19). We must choose to fellowship with Him and be in His Word so we don’t miss anything He has for us to do each day. Next, we read in John 9:2, And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” In the day of Christ, there were many beliefs about why people suffered physically. But Jesus quickly answered the disciples in John 9:3, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” Most physical infirmities are due simply to our fallen condition in general, not to any specific sin, but in this case, God had a specific plan.

• How is God using your frailties and weaknesses to bring glory and honor to Him and to lead others to Him?
