Scripture to Read: John 9:6–12
Jesus healed people in different ways while He was here on earth. Sometimes, Jesus would speak a word and the person would be healed (Matthew 8:8–13). At other times, Jesus would touch them and they would be healed (Matthew 8:14–15, Luke 4:40). There were those who were healed simply by touching Jesus’ clothing (Mark 5:25–29). There were also those who were healed by simply following Jesus’ command (Luke 17:12–18). In John 9:6–7, Jesus healed the blind man in a slightly different way. Jesus “spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and applied the clay to his eyes, 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.” The blind man did not hesitate nor question what Jesus asked him to do; he simply did it and was healed. We must be willing to follow our Lord’s commands in His word, even when they may not make sense to us. We must not question what our Lord has made clear for us to do, but we must trust Him wholeheartedly and walk according to His Holy Word. People often will ask why we do what we do, just like people questioned the blind man in John 9:8–12. Sometimes, we’ll have an obvious answer to their questionso; other times, we’ll only be able to tell them that we know what God has said in His Word, and that is enough. The point is that God’s handiwork through us brings glory to Him.
Challenge & Application
• Why is the example of the blind man’s response such a great example for us to follow each day?
• How has God used people questioning your decisions to strengthen your knowledge of God’s Word?
