Day 4

Scripture to Read: John 4:7–14

In John 4:7, we see that Jesus was the first to begin the conversation with the woman from Samaria by asking her to give Him a drink from the well. This woman would have been shocked for two reasons. First, men usually never spoke to women in public during Jesus’ time. Second, since she was from Samaria, she knew she was hated by the Jews. But Jesus came to break down the walls and barriers that had been built up by mankind's sinful decisions (Romans 3:23, James 4:1–3). So, Jesus got her attention and then told her in John 4:10, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman had no idea what “living water” was because she responded to Jesus letting Him know He had nothing with Him to be able to draw water from the well. Jesus had her attention, and therefore, took her deeper by helping her understand that He was talking about eternal life. Jesus told her in John 4:13–14, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” Only Jesus can offer living water (Revelation 22:17). We must share with those in spiritual need that Christ is the “living water” they thirst for.

Challenge & Application

• What can we learn from Jesus in how He approached the woman from Samaria? • How has God been using you to share with this lost world who need Christ as their Savior and Lord?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus’ ministry, while here on earth, reached into the lives of those who were spiritually hungry and often in desperate need. But those who are satisfied with their lives and who see no spiritual need within them are the ones who are usually the hardest to reach with the gospel of Christ. They have allowed the trappings of this world to capt...

Day 2

In reading back through John 4:1–6, God had John give us some details about where Jesus went and why He stopped where He did. We read in John 4:6–7a, “and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 There *came a woman of Samaria to draw water.” Jesus stopped a...

Day 3

Jesus was led by God the Father to a divine appointment to encounter the woman from Samaria. Make sure to see in John 4:8 that Jesus’ disciples had gone into the city to buy food, so Jesus was alone. So, to better understand why this encounter was so significant, we read in John 4:9, For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. There was a hatr...

Day 5

After Jesus spoke about the living water and never thirsting again, the woman responded in John 4:15, “Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw.” The woman simply wanted her physical needs met. She was so focused on her daily needs that she missed that Jesus was there to meet her spiritual needs. Jes...

Day 6

It’s interesting that once Jesus shared with the woman about her past, she immediately changed the subject to the best place to worship God. We read in John 4:19–24, The woman *said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to w...

Day 7

Jesus would not leave any doubt in the woman’s mind about Who she was talking with. We read in John 4:25–26, The woman *said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us.” 26 Jesus *said to her, “I who speak to you am He.” Jesus declared Who He was and let the woman k...
