Scripture to Read: John 14:12–14
We finish up this week with Jesus saying in John 14:12–14, “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” Years ago, when I first read John 14:12, it bothered me because I knew I had never performed any kind of miracle like Jesus. Nevertheless, Jesus said we’d do greater miracles than Him. I asked the Lord what He meant because I had never healed a blind person or a mute or deaf person and I sure had never prayed over someone and had them rise from the dead. The Lord spoke to my heart and reminded me that every time I had the privilege of leading someone to follow Him as their Lord and Savior, I saw a spiritually dead person raised to life. I saw a spiritually blind person see the Lord like never before. I saw a spiritually deaf person hear the Lord speak to them through His Spirit and His Word and a spiritually mute person now speaking and singing the praises of our Lord. Then, God reminded me that the miracle of a transformed life is an eternal miracle. The reason the body of believers does greater works than Jesus is because He’s multiplied Himself and His ministry through all of His children.
