Scripture to Read: John 14:7–11
In John 14:7, Jesus reminds the disciples that by knowing Him they know God the Father too. But Philip immediately reveals that this makes no sense to him at all. So he asks Jesus in John 14:8, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus does not want there to be any confusion about what He had just said, so He gives Philip and the rest of the disciples this answer in John 14:9–11, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.” For Philip and the other disciples, Jesus leaves no doubt that He and the Father are ONE! This explanation from Jesus is so clear that He is God in the flesh and that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him. Jesus even tells Philip to remember all the miracles he saw Jesus do. The evidence that God as Father, Son, and Spirit has given us is overwhelming; therefore, we have no reason to doubt God or His Word.
Challenge & Application
• What evidence besides His Word and His Spirit in you has God given you about Himself?
• What would you share with someone doubting that Jesus is God?
