Scripture to Read: John 14:2–6
Jesus continued sharing and said (in John 14:2–4), “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And you know the way where I am going.” As Jesus told the disciples about His Father’s house, as Jewish young men, they would have understood the example Jesus was giving them. In the days of Jesus, when a young man got engaged to a young woman, he would return to his father’s house to build the “wedding suite,” which would be attached to his father’s house. Once the groom completed the building of the wedding suite, he had to wait for his father’s approval on when he could go and get his bride and be united to his wife. The father was the only one who could give his son the final approval. Jesus has prepared the wedding suite for His bride (His church), and He is waiting for His Father’s approval to come get us. Then, in John 14:5, Thomas said, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” Jesus quickly helped Thomas know by answering in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” There is no other way to God the Father; Christ is the only way.
Challenge & Application
• What encourages you about Jesus having a place prepared for His bride (us, His church)?
• How will you share Christ with some this week so they realize He is the only way to God the Father?
