Day 7

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 5:13-14

We come to a close on Hebrews 5 today, but we continue to examine where we are spiritually with our Lord. God clarifies what it means to be a spiritual infant. God tells us that everyone who only feeds on the milk of God’s Word, the basic principles of God’s Word, is inexperienced in the deeper truth of God’s Word. God also says that spiritual babies are inexperienced in His Word of righteousness. We really need to change our diet spiritually if we are still simply reading the Word of God and then forgetting it 10 to 15 minutes later. Reading God’s Word is good, but if we can’t remember what we’ve read, then how are we to apply God’s Truth to our daily lives? Hearing God’s Word taught and preached by others is incredibly important, but if all we do is unenthusiastically listen and then forget what was said an hour or two later, again, how can we effectively live out what we have heard? God wants us on solid food, spiritually. God wants us to hunger for His Word the same way a baby longs for the milk of its mom (1 Peter 2:2 “like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation”). Note God’s Word does not say be a baby, but God says to hunger for His Word the way a baby hungers for the milk of its mom. The choice to hunger and then feed on God’s Word is our choice.

Challenge & Application

How are you choosing to hunger for God and His Word daily? Who needs to hear these truths today about hungering for God and His Word? When will you share these truths with them?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

As we ended Hebrews 4, God led the writer to share with us that our Lord Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest. As our High Priest, He did not just perform sacrifices on our behalf, but Christ became our sacrifice to pay the full price for all sin, for all time, for everyone who would surrender to Him as Lord. Today we begin Hebrews 5:1-4 wit...

Day 2

As we begin today, of course we are feeding off of what God taught us yesterday about Christ being our Great High Priest. God lets us know that Christ did not exalt/glorify Himself either to become our Great High Priest. God says it beautifully in Philippians 2:6-11 “who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with Go...

Day 3

There is no doubt that our Lord Jesus Christ is God. Anyone to question that fact does not understand God and His Word. God lovingly manifested Himself in the Person of Jesus Christ so that we could know God intimately. Trying to explain how God is One, but that He’s also Three unique Persons is difficult indeed. There is not a perfect illust...

Day 4

When we think about suffering, it usually sends chills down our spine. No one looks forward to suffering, and most of us ask the Lord to deliver us and to protect us from suffering. But, suffering is a part of life for everyone. Suffering comes in two different ways. One form of suffering is from the sin that we commit. When sin entered man i...

Day 5

The fact that Christ had to suffer on our behalf to pay the penalty for our sin is humbling. As we read in yesterday’s devotion, Christ learned obedience through His suffering, not that He was not already perfect and obedient. Still, Christ showed us how to live in obedience to the Father through suffering. Christ, through His suffering, was ...

Day 6

God, through the writer of Hebrews, lovingly rebukes the Jewish Christians to whom this letter was first written. But, for any one believer today who is not understanding the fullness of who Christ is and all He has done for them, then this is a loving rebuke for them as well. What has happened and why is this loving rebuke being given? The J...
