Scripture to Read: Hebrews 5:5-6
As we begin today, of course we are feeding off of what God taught us yesterday about Christ being our Great High Priest. God lets us know that Christ did not exalt/glorify Himself either to become our Great High Priest. God says it beautifully in Philippians 2:6-11 “who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” God the Father highly exalted God the Son. God the Father appointed God the Son as our High Priest, our Representative, our Propitiation, our Perfect Sacrifice so we could know and fellowship with God the Father personally. God had the writer of Hebrews quote Psalm 2:7 and also Psalm 110:4, further letting us see that Christ is the fulfillment of all the Messianic Old Testament prophecies. Christ is not just “a” high priest, but He is “The” High Priest appointed forever.
