Day 3

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 5:7

There is no doubt that our Lord Jesus Christ is God. Anyone to question that fact does not understand God and His Word. God lovingly manifested Himself in the Person of Jesus Christ so that we could know God intimately. Trying to explain how God is One, but that He’s also Three unique Persons is difficult indeed. There is not a perfect illustration in this world to even come close to fully comprehending God being Three but One. But, for the sake of our finite minds, I’ll share the one illustration that helps me better understand God’s uniqueness as being Three but One. In chemistry, there is a term called the “triple point.” It’s the specific temperature that an element can exist as a solid, liquid and gas all at the same time. For instance, the “triple point” for H2O is 32.1 degrees Fahrenheit. At 32.1 degrees, H2O exists as a solid, liquid and gas. All three forms of H2O are unique but all three are H2O. God always exists at His “triple point.” God is always Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All Three are unique, but all Three are God at the same time. Today in Hebrews 5:7, we see how our Lord Jesus Christ offered up prayers to God the Father for His needs with both crying and tears. God the Father listened and answered because of Christ’s reverence and submission to God the Father and Christ’s steadfast determination to do the Father’s will. Because of Christ, God the Father listens to us as well (Romans 8:26; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25).

Challenge & Application

What did you learn today about Christ and His intimate fellowship and reverence with God the Father? How are you practicing to have intimate fellowship with God the Father on a daily basis?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

As we ended Hebrews 4, God led the writer to share with us that our Lord Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest. As our High Priest, He did not just perform sacrifices on our behalf, but Christ became our sacrifice to pay the full price for all sin, for all time, for everyone who would surrender to Him as Lord. Today we begin Hebrews 5:1-4 wit...

Day 2

As we begin today, of course we are feeding off of what God taught us yesterday about Christ being our Great High Priest. God lets us know that Christ did not exalt/glorify Himself either to become our Great High Priest. God says it beautifully in Philippians 2:6-11 “who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with Go...

Day 4

When we think about suffering, it usually sends chills down our spine. No one looks forward to suffering, and most of us ask the Lord to deliver us and to protect us from suffering. But, suffering is a part of life for everyone. Suffering comes in two different ways. One form of suffering is from the sin that we commit. When sin entered man i...

Day 5

The fact that Christ had to suffer on our behalf to pay the penalty for our sin is humbling. As we read in yesterday’s devotion, Christ learned obedience through His suffering, not that He was not already perfect and obedient. Still, Christ showed us how to live in obedience to the Father through suffering. Christ, through His suffering, was ...

Day 6

God, through the writer of Hebrews, lovingly rebukes the Jewish Christians to whom this letter was first written. But, for any one believer today who is not understanding the fullness of who Christ is and all He has done for them, then this is a loving rebuke for them as well. What has happened and why is this loving rebuke being given? The J...

Day 7

We come to a close on Hebrews 5 today, but we continue to examine where we are spiritually with our Lord. God clarifies what it means to be a spiritual infant. God tells us that everyone who only feeds on the milk of God’s Word, the basic principles of God’s Word, is inexperienced in the deeper truth of God’s Word. God also says that spiritua...
