Day 7

Scripture to Read: Genesis 24:62-67

As we conclude Genesis 24, we see the marriage between Isaac and Rebekah. After God granted success to Abraham's servant, answered his prayer, and blessed Rebekah, the time came for Isaac and Rebekah to meet. Isaac had spent time meditating in the field. In Genesis 24:63-64 we read of how they first see each other. Isaac sees the camels coming, and Rebekah asks who the man is in the field. When she was told it was Isaac, she took her veil and covered her face as she prepared to meet Isaac. After meeting, Isaac and Rebekah get married. Genesis 24:67 closes by describing the union of their marriage, "Then Isaac brought her into the tent of Sarah his mother and took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death." Two things not to miss. First, the place where Isaac took Rebekah as his wife was Sarah's tent. God had made a covenant that Abraham would become a great nation through him and Sarah's seed. Isaac and Rebekah's marriage in Sarah's tent is a continuation of God's fulfillment of His promise to Abraham. Second, as the week opened with Abraham mourning the loss of Sarah, we see at the end of Genesis 24, Isaac, comforted after his mother's death as the Lord provided him a wife. What an encouragement to us that we worship a God who is always faithful and comforts us in our time of loss. Let's all walk in the comfort of our faithful God and His promises today!

Challenge & Application

1. What do we learn about the character of God, both with His promises and in our times of loss? 2. How have you seen the Lord’s faithfulness in your life and His comfort to you during times of loss?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

In today's devotion, we read the record of Sarah's death. In dealing with this loss, Abraham grieves his wife's death but also trusts and hopes in the promise of God. We see this because God's Word plainly says in Genesis 23:2, "and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her." The reality of living in a fallen world brought grief ...

Day 2

After Sarah's death, the focus shifts to Isaac. God made His covenant with Abraham, and Isaac was the son God had promised. For God to remain faithful to His covenant with Abraham and his descendants, his son Isaac must continue with offspring. In Genesis 24, Abraham sends his servant to find a wife for Isaac. God shows us how serious the dec...

Day 4

Yesterday, we saw where the servant of Abraham prayed a specific prayer to the Lord. In today's devotion, we witness the Lord's answer. As the servant prayed, he was by a water spring, and he asked the Lord to have a young woman willing to offer him a drink from her jar. In Genesis 24:17-18, we find the answer to that prayer, "Then the servan...

That is what we see take place in Genesis 24:29-49. Abraham's servant met with Rebekah's father, Bethuel, and her brother, Laban, and described all t...
