Day 6

Scripture to Read: Genesis 24:50-61

In today's devotion, we read in Genesis 24:50-51, Laban and Bethuel's response, "Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, "The thing has come from the Lord; we cannot speak to you bad or good. 51 Behold, Rebekah is before you; take her and go, and let her be the wife of your master's son, as the Lord has spoken." Laban and Bethuel had heard all Abraham's servant had shared and knew what had taken place was from the Lord. Abraham's servant responded to their reply by bowing himself to the Lord (v. 52). While Rebekah's brother and mother tried to slow things down so they could have a little more time with Rebekah before she left, Rebekah agreed to go and leave her family and make her way with Abraham's servant to be with Isaac (vv. 58-59). In leaving, Rebekah's family blesses her and says, "Our sister, may you become thousands of ten thousands, and may your offspring possess the gate of those who hate him!" (v. 60). This blessing is another reminder of the promise God made to Abraham and his offspring. God will continue to bless the line of Abraham, and his descendants will be many. The takeaway from God's Word is that this is from the Lord, spoken by the Lord, to continue to bless and fulfill His promise to Abraham and all of his descendants. God is faithful to keep His covenant, and of course, this covenant is ultimately fulfilled through our Lord Jesus Christ. Genesis 24 points us to God's promise and hope in Christ.

Challenge & Application

1. How does the blessing of Rebekah in verse 60 recall the promise and covenant God has made with Abraham? 2. How does seeing the fulfillment of God’s promise in Jesus Christ bring you hope?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

In today's devotion, we read the record of Sarah's death. In dealing with this loss, Abraham grieves his wife's death but also trusts and hopes in the promise of God. We see this because God's Word plainly says in Genesis 23:2, "and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her." The reality of living in a fallen world brought grief ...

Day 2

After Sarah's death, the focus shifts to Isaac. God made His covenant with Abraham, and Isaac was the son God had promised. For God to remain faithful to His covenant with Abraham and his descendants, his son Isaac must continue with offspring. In Genesis 24, Abraham sends his servant to find a wife for Isaac. God shows us how serious the dec...

Day 4

Yesterday, we saw where the servant of Abraham prayed a specific prayer to the Lord. In today's devotion, we witness the Lord's answer. As the servant prayed, he was by a water spring, and he asked the Lord to have a young woman willing to offer him a drink from her jar. In Genesis 24:17-18, we find the answer to that prayer, "Then the servan...

Day 7

As we conclude Genesis 24, we see the marriage between Isaac and Rebekah. After God granted success to Abraham's servant, answered his prayer, and blessed Rebekah, the time came for Isaac and Rebekah to meet. Isaac had spent time meditating in the field. In Genesis 24:63-64 we read of how they first see each other. Isaac sees the camels comi...
