Scripture to Read: Genesis 24:29-49
In Genesis 24, Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for Isaac. The servant prayed, and the Lord answered the prayer. But, the
servant still had to receive the blessing from Rebekah's family. That is what we see take place in Genesis 24:29-49. Abraham's servant met with Rebekah's father, Bethuel, and her brother, Laban, and described all that had occurred. The servant shared how the LORD had blessed Abraham (v. 35), how the LORD had directed him (v. 40), and how he prayed before Rebekah showed up at the spring (v. 42). Abraham's servant revealed to them all that the LORD had done. The search for Isaac's wife was a part of God's plan to continue His covenant with Abraham. After the servant shared all that happened, he also told them how he worshiped the Lord for answering his prayer. Then the servant says to the family, in Genesis 24:49, "Now then, if you are going to show steadfast love and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left." As he waited for their answer, he trusted the Lord for the answer He had already given him. The questions we must ask ourselves are, "Have I seen the work of my Lord in my life? When I am waiting for an answer, do I trust the Lord for the answer He has or will give me?" The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ must be our constant reminder that God has worked salvation for us and that we must trust Him!
Challenge & Application
1. How does the servant’s story reveal these events are a work done by God and not orchestrated by man?
2. How are you responding like the servant in verse 49, trusting the Lord with the answer to what you are asking?
Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
