Day 4

Scripture to Read: Genesis 24:15-28

Yesterday, we saw where the servant of Abraham prayed a specific prayer to the Lord. In today's devotion, we witness the Lord's answer. As the servant prayed, he was by a water spring, and he asked the Lord to have a young woman willing to offer him a drink from her jar. In Genesis 24:17-18, we find the answer to that prayer, "Then the servant ran to meet her, and said, "Please let me drink a little water from your jar." 18 She said, "Drink, my lord"; and she quickly lowered her jar to her hand, and gave him a drink." Moreover, where the servant's prayer was even more specific in watering the camels, the Lord answered it as well when Rebekah offered to draw water for the camels. As the servant heard her offer, he stood amazed as the Lord answered his prayer. Rebekah offered them to stay with her family. As they made the journey to her home, the servant responded the only way he knew how, in Genesis 24:26-27, "The man bowed his head and worshiped the Lord 27 and said, "Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his steadfast love and his faithfulness toward my master. As for me, the Lord has led me in the way to the house of my master's kinsmen." We would do well to follow the example of Abraham's servant. Our prayers must be characterized and based on the promises of God, and our response to answered prayer must always be praise and worship to our Lord.

Challenge & Application

1. What do we learn about how God answers prayers based upon His promises? 2. How do you respond when the Lord answers a request you have been praying for?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

In today's devotion, we read the record of Sarah's death. In dealing with this loss, Abraham grieves his wife's death but also trusts and hopes in the promise of God. God shows us how serious the dec...
