Scripture to Read: Colossians 2:12
When Christ became our Lord and Savior, we were given a brand-new life through Him. We were changed by Christ, so we are to live this life according to the change Christ has made in us. Since our “old man” (our “old self”) was crucified, it was also buried, just as Christ’s body was buried for three days after His crucifixion. God had Paul write in Colossians 2:12, “having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.” God had Paul reference our “old man” and the fact that it was buried with Christ in the baptism of His death. But the good news is that we were not killed, only our “old man” (our “old self”) was killed, but we needed a new life and that is what God the Father then gave us through Christ. So, through God’s power, we were raised up with Christ through His Holy Spirit who now lives in us. Just as Christ was raised from the dead, we were raised from the death we were in because before Christ, we were dead in our sin (Ephesians 2:1–3), but we were given new life in Christ. God had Paul write it this way in Romans 6:4, “Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.” So, walk in your newness.
