Scripture to Read: Colossians 2:8
Because we are Christians, we must daily walk with a guarded heart and mind. Our enemy, the devil and all of the spiritual forces of wickedness (Ephesians 6:12), would love to see us stumble and fall in our walk with our Lord (1 Peter 5:8). God therefore had Paul write this in Colossians 2:8, “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.” The spiritual forces of darkness use false preachers, teachers, evangelists, and others to seek to captivate Christians who are young in their faith or Christians who have never matured in their faith. God desires us to be continually growing in our faith in Him and in our knowledge of Him and His Word. God does not want us to remain immature in our walk with Him, for even God had the writer in Hebrews write this as a warning for us all to be growing in Him: Hebrews 5:12–14, “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.” Immaturity is not an option for any Christian.
