Scripture to Read: Colossians 1:9–12
God will walk us through Colossians 1:13–23 this week as we continue to examine our Lord Jesus Christ and all He’s done for us. We’re going to start with Colossians 1:9–12 because it ties in so beautifully with the rest of Colossians 1. God used Paul to encourage the believers in Colossae, and us, as Paul penned God’s Word, “we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.” What’s so true is that God the Spirit (Romans 8:26–27) and God the Son (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25) are continually praying for us in the presence of God the Father. God wants us to join Him, for only He can fill us with the knowledge of His will and with Himself, for He is wisdom, knowledge, and understanding (Isaiah 11:2, Colossians 2:3, 1 Corinthians 1:30). God wants us to pray for each other, so we all walk in a manner that honors Him. As we obey our Lord, He produces His fruit (Galatians 5:22–23) in us and through us. Then we also read in Colossians 1:11, that through His strength and power (Ephesians 6:10), we can stand firm and live patiently and joyously as we rest and trust in Him. Finally, we live with thankful hearts to God, knowing He, through Christ, made it possible for us to share in the inheritance He has for all of His children.
