Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 3:10–12
In 1 Peter 3:10–12, God has Peter quote Psalm 34:12–16. In Psalms 34:12, a question is asked: “Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous?” Of course, the obvious answer is “yes.” So, God, through the psalmist and then through Peter, continues to tell us how to live a life that He blesses. First, God commands that we guard our tongue against evil & deceit. God says this repeatedly in His Word (Proverbs 16:27; Ephesians 4:29; Colossians 4:6; Ephesians 4:25; Colossians 3:9). Second, God also commands us to flee from evil continually and pursue good (2 Timothy 2:22; 1 Timothy 6:11). Third, God reminds us that we must constantly seek/pursue peace. Only in Christ can we or will we ever experience perfect peace (Ephesians 6:15; Philippians 4:6–7; Colossians 3:15). Fourth, God’s eyes are toward His children, and His ears are constantly in tune with our every prayer. God hears us because, being Triune (Father, Son, & Spirit), He prays with us, for us, and through us (Romans 8:26–27; Romans 8:34; Hebrews 7:25). Finally, God is against those who choose to live in sin and remain unrepentant (Romans 1:18; Ephesians 5:6; Colossians 3:6). God’s wrath will be poured out on all who refuse to repent and surrender to Him. God desires all of us to passionately pursue Him and His Word so that we walk in His blessings each day.
