Day 2

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 3:8

Today we focus on the second characteristic God commands us to have as Christians. God tells us in 1 Peter 3:8 that we are also to be sympathetic, so we are to sympathize with each other. To be sympathetic means we must have a heart of compassion and kindness toward each other. As we show God’s compassion and kindness, we also have to guard against a heart of bitterness, selfishness, or empty conceit. To better understand what God means, we see what God tells us in Romans 12:10, Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor. So, God wants us to love each other with His genuine love (unconditional and not self-serving). We also need to learn to take delight in honoring each other. Most people are focused on delighting themselves first and then focusing on others. God wants us to do the opposite and focus on others first and ourselves last. God says it this way in Colossians 3:12–14, So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Note that compassion and kindness are listed first as attributes that God says we are to live out since He has chosen us and we belong to Him. Our devotion and love for our Lord directs our devotion and love for others, for they go hand-in-hand.

Challenge & Application

· So, having a heart of compassion and kindness are to be normal for each Christian. How are you living out those attributes daily? · How are you honoring others above yourself and focusing on their needs first and your needs last?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We continue our journey through 1 Peter 3. As we saw last week, God gave us the beautiful picture of how a husband and wife are to live out their marriage relationship in a manner that honors Him. God wants us to understand that what He laid out for the husband-and-wife relationship is not just for the married couple. God also led Peter to wr...

Day 3

God wants our lives to look starkly different than the world in which we live. If we look like the world, we’re either still lost in our sin or remaining incredibly immature in our walk with Christ (1 Corinthians 2:14 & 1 Corinthians 3:1–3). So, the third characteristic God lays out for us is to be brotherly. God commanded us to love each oth...

Day 4

Today we examine the fifth characteristic God has given us in 1 Peter 3:8. God tells us to be humble in spirit. We must never forget that humility is a choice and not something we ask God to give us. As we humble ourselves, we willingly serve our Lord by serving others. God has called us to be servants and to lay down our lives for Him throug...

Day 5

The attitude God lays out for us today in 1 Peter 3:9 is for us to make sure we’re not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead. God never wants us repaying evil for evil. God also doesn’t want us retaliating with insults when people insult us. Instead, God says to pay people back with a blessing. In our fle...

Day 6

The six characteristics God has called all of us to walk in when we’re willing to obey them, God promises His blessing. God’s Word says in 1 Peter 3:9, …for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. Too often, we ask for God’s blessing instead of paying attention to His Word, where He clearly reveals how to recei...

Day 7

In 1 Peter 3:10–12, God has Peter quote Psalm 34:12–16. In Psalms 34:12, a question is asked: “Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous?” Of course, the obvious answer is “yes.” So, God, through the psalmist and then through Peter, continues to tell us how to live a life that He blesses. First, God commands that we guard ou...
