Day 3

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 3:8

God wants our lives to look starkly different than the world in which we live. If we look like the world, we’re either still lost in our sin or remaining incredibly immature in our walk with Christ (1 Corinthians 2:14 & 1 Corinthians 3:1–3). So, the third characteristic God lays out for us is to be brotherly. God commanded us to love each other as brothers and sisters who are part of His family. God confirms this several times in His Word, but one that sticks out is in Colossians 3:14, Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Then the fourth characteristic God tells us we must put into practice is being kindhearted. To be kindhearted means to be tenderhearted toward others. When we are kindhearted, we choose not to be judgmental and harsh. That does not mean that we do not hold each other accountable. Being kindhearted means treating those who have fallen with the same kindness we’d like to receive when someone holds us accountable. God says it like this in Galatians 6:1–2 Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. We are in the ministry of restoration and not retribution. We must be willing to come alongside each other and help bear each other's heavy burdens.

Challenge & Application

· As you consider what being brotherly means, how have you shown God’s love to those around you? · Being kindhearted is being like our Lord. How have you experienced kindheartedness or shown it to others?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We continue our journey through 1 Peter 3. As we saw last week, God gave us the beautiful picture of how a husband and wife are to live out their marriage relationship in a manner that honors Him. God wants us to understand that what He laid out for the husband-and-wife relationship is not just for the married couple. God also led Peter to wr...

Day 2

Today we focus on the second characteristic God commands us to have as Christians. God tells us in 1 Peter 3:8 that we are also to be sympathetic, so we are to sympathize with each other. To be sympathetic means we must have a heart of compassion and kindness toward each other. As we show God’s compassion and kindness, we also have to guard a...

Day 4

Today we examine the fifth characteristic God has given us in 1 Peter 3:8. God tells us to be humble in spirit. We must never forget that humility is a choice and not something we ask God to give us. As we humble ourselves, we willingly serve our Lord by serving others. God has called us to be servants and to lay down our lives for Him throug...

Day 5

The attitude God lays out for us today in 1 Peter 3:9 is for us to make sure we’re not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead. God never wants us repaying evil for evil. God also doesn’t want us retaliating with insults when people insult us. Instead, God says to pay people back with a blessing. In our fle...

Day 6

The six characteristics God has called all of us to walk in when we’re willing to obey them, God promises His blessing. God’s Word says in 1 Peter 3:9, …for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing. Too often, we ask for God’s blessing instead of paying attention to His Word, where He clearly reveals how to recei...

Day 7

In 1 Peter 3:10–12, God has Peter quote Psalm 34:12–16. In Psalms 34:12, a question is asked: “Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous?” Of course, the obvious answer is “yes.” So, God, through the psalmist and then through Peter, continues to tell us how to live a life that He blesses. First, God commands that we guard ou...
