Scripture to Read: Romans 8:5–8
Today, we continue to unpack Romans 8, as God tells us in Romans 8:6, For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. As we ended yesterday, we examined some Scriptures where God tells us that we have to be continually renewed in our minds. What we choose to think about and what we choose to allow our minds to be filled with affects every area of our lives. When our minds get set on our fleshly desires, then we will sin. As we know, sin always results in death (Romans 6:23). But when we choose to obey God and His Word and focus our thoughts on God and His Word, then we experience the fullness of the abundant life only found in Christ (John 10:10, John 5:40). God even tells us in Philippians 4:8, Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. So, God tells us to dwell on Him and His Word, for only He and His Word are everything listed in Philippians 4:8. Note that God tells us that when our mind is focused on His Spirit, we also walk in peace. So, if we’re not experiencing His peace, we first need to understand that our minds are focused on the wrong stuff. We should be experiencing His life and peace daily, but the choice is ours.
Challenge & Application
According to what God taught you today, why do we not experience God's life and peace more often than we do?
How can you begin to experience more of God’s life and peace, knowing you have that in you because He is in you?
