Scripture to Read: Romans 2:16
So far this week, in Romans 2, we have learned much about God’s judgment. God will judge both the Jew and the Gentile, which includes us. Everyone found separate from Christ will be found guilty of their sin. God will also judge everyone according to their works. These works are not just actions that others can see, but the works God will judge include every thought that goes through the minds and hearts of humanity. God has Paul mention His judgment of the thoughts of mankind in Romans 2:16; God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus. People might be able to keep a low profile on having their sinful actions on display, but God knows everything, including every thought. God sees when we look at something we shouldn’t or lust after someone. Because God knows our secret sins, there is only one appropriate response: confession. For those who are followers of Christ, we must continually crucify our flesh to stay in the right fellowship with our Lord. Everyone who is lost must come to the point of repentance (turning from their sin and turning to follow Christ) and confess their sin to God to receive the fullness of God’s grace and forgiveness. This is the gospel message we must proclaim to all who still need a relationship with Christ. Because of Christ, all who commit “secret” sins must come into the light (Ephesians 5:8–15) and confess those sins to God through Christ. We must walk in the light of our Lord and the hope of the gospel of our King.
