Day 4

Scripture to Read: Romans 2:9–11

Over the last three devotions, God has revealed to us portions of His divine character and the choices He provides to mankind to follow Him or themselves. We have seen God's holiness through His judgment and wrath that will come upon sinners (those who refuse His gift of forgiveness through Christ). We have seen His patience and kindness given to ALL sinners who follow Him through repentance and walk with Christ. Today, God reveals another aspect of His character. In Romans 2:11, God states plainly that there is ZERO partiality with Him. This is more Good News, knowing that God NEVER plays favorites. Now, in Romans 2:9–10, God has Paul explain that partiality does not exist with Him by telling us that He brings “tribulation and distress” to both Jews and Greeks who choose to walk in evil. To walk in evil (sin) means that people willingly reject God and His Truth and choose to feed their fleshly desires (1 John 2:15–16, Galatians 6:8). Then, God has Paul explain that He gives “glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good” to both Jews and Greeks. By the way, “doing good” is impossible apart from a relationship with Christ (John 15:5). Only through Jesus Christ is one saved from the power and penalty of their sin (John 14:6, John 10:9, Romans 5:2, Ephesians 2:18). So then, once someone has surrendered to Christ, they have His power to do His will and live forever with Him (1 John 2:17, Philippians 2:13).

Challenge & Application

· Why is it important to understand God shows no partiality? · How can you know whether you are one who does evil or one who does good?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

After describing (in Romans 1) the sinful lifestyles of people who are lost in their sin, in Romans 2:1, God reminds us there is no place for us to pass judgment from a position of arrogance or self-righteousness on the lost. When we judge from a position of arrogance, God tells us that we are living in some of these same sins as those whom w...

Day 2

As God led Paul to write His Word, we know that God used Paul to point out the sin of the Gentiles in Romans 1. As God led Paul to continue to write, there were Jews who felt they were right in the sight of God because they were born Jews and they lived moral lives. The Jews believed their morality made them right with God. But, apart from a ...

Day 3

Yesterday, God showed us that our hope is in Christ and that Christ took our judgment on Himself. We also saw that the kindness of God is revealed through Christ. In His Word, God the Father continually offers hope to all mankind through our Lord Jesus Christ and today is no different. As God offers hope through Christ, He continually warns o...

Day 5

Yesterday, God taught us that He shows no partiality and that He is not impressed with a person’s physical lineage but their spiritual lineage. As God continued to use Paul to pen His Word, God had Paul share how every sinful person is found guilty. For God’s Word says, in Romans 2:12–13, For all who have sinned without the Law will also peri...

Day 6

In Romans 2:14–15, God makes it clear why the Gentiles, who do not have the Law, can be found guilty of their sin. God has Paul write His Word to reveal that though Gentiles do not have the Law which was given to the Jews, what Gentiles do have is the evidence of the Law written on their hearts by God. Every soul on the face of the earth has ...

Day 7

So far this week, in Romans 2, we have learned much about God’s judgment. God will judge both the Jew and the Gentile, which includes us. Everyone found separate from Christ will be found guilty of their sin. God will also judge everyone according to their works. These works are not just actions that others can see, but the works God will jud...
