Day 6

Scripture to Read: Romans 15:17–19

As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, God had Paul remind us how He had called Paul “to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles” (Romans 15:16). As God led Paul to continue, we read in Romans 15:17, “Therefore in Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God.” God has called us to do the same, for we also have nothing to boast about except what Christ has done in us, for us, and what He’s doing through us. If we’re not careful, we can rob God of the glory that is for Him alone if we think we have something within ourselves to boast about. But God used Paul to remind us that our boasting should only be geared to those things “pertaining to God.” Regarding boasting, God led Paul to write this in Galatians 6:14, “But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” God had Paul continue in Romans 15:18–19, “For I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me, resulting in the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed, 19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit.” Our lives are built on this same foundation, knowing everything that has been accomplished through us has been done by our Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit in us, for apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).

Challenge & Application

· How are you guarding against boasting about your life and ensuring God gets all the glory for all that’s done through you? · How can you help other believers who struggle with boasting to humble themselves and recognize God’s work through them?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Today, we get the beautiful reminder from God, through Paul, that Christ came for both the Jews and the Gentiles. God had Paul write in Romans 15:8–9, “For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers, 9 and for the Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy.”...

Day 2

As we saw yesterday, God’s plan has always been to offer salvation to the Jews and the Gentiles. So, let’s look deeper at what God offers us (as Gentiles) through Christ. No one deserves God’s grace and mercy, especially us Gentiles, but God wanted to make sure, as He led Paul to write to the Gentile believers in Rome, that they were part of ...

Day 3

God had Paul pray another prayer in Romans 15:13, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” According to this prayer, we are reminded that God is our God of hope. Our hope in this life has nothing to do with anything this world has to offer us. Our ...

Day 4

>As we continue to examine the prayer that God led Paul to write, we see that God led Paul to remind the believers in Rome that they were full of goodness, not because they were good but because of Christ in them. God’s Word says in Romans 15:14, “And concerning you, my brethren, I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of good...

Day 5

God allowed Paul (in Romans 15:15–16) to write, “But I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God, 16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified ...

Day 7

God used Paul in many miraculous ways as Paul served our Lord well in preaching the gospel to the Gentiles. We read at the end of Romans 15:19, “so that from Jerusalem and round about as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ” and then in Romans 15:20, “I aspired to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, s...
