Day 5

Scripture to Read: Romans 15:28

We have learned over the last several months, and even examined it more closely over these last few days, how Paul had this desire to go to Rome and meet his brothers and sisters in Christ. We all have had ministry opportunities offered to us where we had to say no because we were already involved in another ministry God had placed us into. As Christians, we will ALWAYS have opportunities to serve our Lord because that is what He’s designed us to do (Ephesians 2:10, Titus 2:14, Titus 3:8, Titus 3:14), but we should never be surprised when numerous opportunities open because others invite those who serve well to come alongside them and serve with them too. We must ask our Lord for His discernment so that we never leave a ministry we are involved in simply because we’ve been invited to another ministry opportunity. That is why we need to read what God had Paul write in Romans 15:28, “Therefore, when I have finished this, and have put my seal on this fruit of theirs, I will go on by way of you to Spain.” I know it’s written here in black, but let’s not miss it. God had Paul write that Paul would not plan on getting to Rome until he had “finished” the ministry God called him to be a part of in delivering the gift to the believers in Jerusalem. Ministry is always about finishing the work God first called us to fulfill. Though our feelings pull us in another direction, we must always finish well.

Challenge & Application

You know you have been called to ministry, so what ministries are you serving our Lord in and if you’re not serving, why not? How do you guard against getting over-extended in ministry so that you finish well where God has placed you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

As we ended last week, God challenged us to share the Good News with those who have not heard of Him yet. We were also challenged to pray Colossians 4:3–4 and seek out those opportunities to share Him, knowing and trusting that God will open up opportunities for us. As we start today, we read in Romans 15:22, “For this reason I have often bee...

Day 2

God, in His sovereign work, leads and guides us to ministry opportunities every day. We need to have our hearts ready and our spiritual eyes open so we do not miss what God has in store for us to do. God makes it clear in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that...

Day 3

Today, before we get into the text, we need to understand that in Acts 16 & Acts 17, we find recorded the accounts of Paul, Silas, and Timothy planting churches in Macedonia. The churches God used these men to plant were in Philippi (Acts 16:12–40), Thessalonica (Acts 17:1–9), and Berea (Acts 17:10–14). In 1 Thessalonians, God used Paul to en...

Day 4

God has had us examining Paul’s ministry and how Paul had desired to go to Rome to meet his brothers and sisters in Christ there. God had Paul share with the believers in Rome that God was opening a door for him to be able to come to Rome but before getting to Rome, God had Paul go to Jerusalem. God had opened the door for Paul to go to Jerus...

Day 6

Words of encouragement are incredibly important to us all. God had Paul write a quick word of encouragement to the believers in Rome in Romans 15:29, “I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.” God used Paul to tell the believers that he was sure that when he finally got to Rome to see his brothers...

Day 7

As we finish up today, we read how Paul asked for prayer in Romans 15:30–33, “Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, 31 that I may be rescued from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service for Jerusalem may prove acceptable to th...
