Scripture to Read: Romans 12:1
We began to unpack glorifying God through our bodies as we present ourselves to Him as “a living and holy sacrifice.” We know the physical shells we live in will not last forever, but God desires that these shells be used for His glory while we're here. In Romans 12:1, God had Paul use the phrase “acceptable to God.” To live acceptable to God means we choose to dedicate all of ourselves to God and not get caught up with the stuff of this world. Remember what God told us in Romans 6:12–14, “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” This means we guard what we say, what we think, what we choose to watch and listen to, how we work each day, and even what we eat and drink. Eating and drinking may not seem so important, but remember what God showed us yesterday. Since our body is His temple, His temple needs to be taken care of the best way we know how to do it. We must continually ask ourselves in all we do and say, “is this ‘acceptable’ to my God and King?” Living a life “well-pleasing” to our Lord is what we must do.
Challenge & Application
· Why is it important for us to live a life that is “acceptable” to God?
· How is living a life “acceptable” to God used by our Lord to help others see the life and light of Christ through us?
